Located in the Tepebağ district of Adana, Bebekli Kilise was established in 1881 under the authority of the Vatican and built by Italian Catholics. The church has served as an important religious center where many communities from different Christian denominations have worshiped.
Atop the church stands a 2.5-meter-tall bronze statue of the Virgin Mary, which resembles a baby and is the reason the church is called "Bebekli Kilise." The interior decoration features rich iconography, paintings depicting the crucifixion of Jesus Christ, and numerous symbols unique to Catholic rituals.
In the past, Bebekli Kilise hosted social institutions such as two schools, a hospital, and an orphanage. However, these institutions have since closed.
Religious ceremonies in the church are conducted according to Vatican regulations. The flags of the Pope and Turkey are displayed side by side inside the church. The priest and his assistant lead the services wearing symbolic vestments and performing rituals.
Situated in the Seyhan district, Bebekli Kilise is the largest Catholic church in Adana. It attracts both local and foreign visitors and stands as one of the city’s important cultural and religious landmarks.
