Set at Özel Çamlıca Lisesi, the story revolves around the Hababam Class meeting female students and the ensuing competitive adventures. The film premiered in Türkiye on 1 January 1977 and has since secured its place in Turkish cinema history as one of the most beloved entries in the series. Hababam Sınıfı Tatilde begins with the principal of Özel Çamlıca Lisesi deciding to admit female students in order to earn more money. The arrival of four girls introduces a dynamic unfamiliar to the male students. Initially attempting to befriend the girls, the Hababam Class soon shifts to rivalry when their efforts fail. The girls quickly adapt to the boys’ mischief and begin setting traps while developing their own strategies. Meanwhile, the students plan to escape school under the pretense of a scouting trip and deceive Badi Ekrem (Şener Şen). However, they are caught upon their return by Mahmut Hoca (Münir Özkul) and punished with a mandatory scouting camp. The film humorously explores themes of gender roles competition and friendship while preserving the series’ lighthearted spirit.
Hababam Sınıfı Tatilde Film (Arzu Film)
Hababam Sınıfı Tatilde was filmed in Istanbul in 1976. The screenplay by Sadık Şendil drew inspiration from Rıfat Ilgaz’s novel but offered a more original narrative compared to the earlier films in the series. Produced and directed by Ertem Eğilmez under Arzu Film’s intimate production approach the film achieved a strong balance of humor and emotion despite its low budget. Filming took place at Adile Sultan Kasrı various locations around Istanbul schools and outdoor sites for the scouting camp scenes. Cinematographer Hüseyin Özşahin’s colorful and vibrant visuals enhanced the film’s cheerful atmosphere. The music was composed by Melih Kibar and the “Hababam Sınıfı March” featured in this film as an iconic element of the series.
The film humorously examines gender dynamics through the competition between male and female students. The girls’ adaptation to the boys’ antics and their strategic countermeasures offer a subtle critique of the era’s social perceptions of gender roles.
Despite the chaotic rivalry the bond and solidarity among the students form the emotional core of the film. The eventual mutual adjustment between the boys and girls reinforces the theme of unity and collective action.
Mahmut Hoca’s disciplined approach and the scouting camp punishment reflect both the restrictive and liberating aspects of education. The students’ attempts to escape school express youthful energy and the desire for freedom.
