Holistic education is an instructional approach that integrates the student’s academic success with their emotional, social, and ethical development. It aims to develop the individual’s intellectual, physical, and spiritual dimensions as a unified whole, and to foster self-actualization through balanced engagement of both hemispheres of the brain.
This approach recognizes not only numerical and verbal intelligence but also accepts visual, musical, social, and existential intelligence as valid forms. Success is linked not only to IQ scores but also to the cultivation of non-cognitive traits such as self-discipline and academic motivation.
In this process, project-based learning that supports students’ natural curiosity and integrated curriculum approaches that emphasize interdisciplinary connections are applied. Collaborative methods are essential for developing social skills and for teachers to create a supportive environment as guides.
Alternative assessment systems are advocated that reveal students’ strengths and what they can do with what they have learned, instead of traditional standardized tests. Success is measured not only by grades but also by the individual’s contribution to social well-being and the public good.

Türkiye Century Education Model(Ministry of National Education of the Republic of Türkiye)
Developed by the Ministry of National Education in 2024, the Türkiye Century Education Model is a holistic educational approach that serves as the foundation for Türkiye’s new curricula. The model aims to cultivate a “competent and virtuous individual” by addressing the student’s development across mental, emotional, social, physical, and spiritual dimensions. This approach is grounded in a comprehensive educational philosophy that seeks to enable students to go beyond acquiring knowledge and instead develop values, skills, and a sense of responsibility.
At the core of the model is a skills-based teaching approach. Under this framework, curricula have been streamlined to target the development of higher-order skills such as critical thinking, problem solving, scientific inquiry, data analysis, and decision making. New skill frameworks defined in mathematics, science, and social studies aim not only for students to learn information but also to apply it across diverse contexts.

Components of the Türkiye Century Education Model(Ministry of National Education of the Republic of Türkiye)
The Türkiye Century Education Model is not merely a change in subject content; it also anticipates the restructuring of educational environments. In this context, learning processes are designed to be based on interdisciplinary connections, social-emotional learning skills, and systems thinking. Furthermore, differentiated learning practices, assessment based on learning evidence, and teaching methods tailored to individual student characteristics are emphasized.
Implementation of the model began gradually in the 2024–2025 academic year. It was first introduced in preschool institutions, first grade of primary school, fifth grade of middle school, and ninth grade of secondary education, accompanied by in-service training for teachers. During this phase, theoretical and practical professional development programs have been planned to enable teachers to effectively implement the new curricula.
For the model’s success, the creation of multiple learning environments that go beyond traditional classroom settings is considered essential. In this regard, the widespread adoption of skill workshops, practice-based learning spaces, and enriched digital infrastructure is targeted. The goal is for students to become not merely consumers of knowledge but active producers, investigators, and participants in the learning process.
