Center for Violence Prevention and Monitoring (ŞÖNİM)

Center for Violence Prevention and Monitoring (CVPM) is an institution established in Türkiye to combat violence against women and operating under the Ministry of Family and Social Services. CVPMs are units that provide victims of violence with protection, support, and counseling services.

The purpose of establishing CVPMs is to prevent violence against women and to provide assistance to individuals who have experienced or are at risk of experiencing violence. Since violence against women and domestic violence constitute significant social problems in Türkiye, various measures have been adopted to address this issue. CVPMs represent one of the most important operational platforms for these measures. Under Law No. 6284 on the Protection of the Family and Prevention of Violence Against Women, the protection and support of victims of violence are ensured.

• Victims of violence can receive psychological support during their recovery from trauma. Professional psychologists and therapists work with victims to help them cope with their traumatic experiences. Additionally, support such as family therapy and individual counseling may be provided.

• CVPM provides legal assistance to victims of violence. Victims can initiate legal proceedings against perpetrators and obtain protective orders. They are also informed about their legal rights and assisted in navigating these processes. Guidance is offered in legal matters such as divorce, alimony, and child custody.

• Under social services, victims may be provided with opportunities for employment, economic assistance, and social aid. This supports the reintegration of victims into society.

• CVPMs organize various educational programs and seminars to raise public awareness about combating violence. These programs address issues such as gender equality, violence prevention, and victims’ rights.
• Anti-violence awareness initiatives are conducted in schools, public institutions, and throughout the community.

Applications to CVPM centers can be made through several channels:

• Direct Application: Victims of violence can apply directly to the nearest CVPM center.
• 183 Social Support Line: Individuals can call the 183 hotline to receive referrals from the Ministry of Family and Social Services.
• Police and Gendarmerie: Applications to CVPM can also be made through security forces. Victims of violence can seek immediate assistance from law enforcement agencies.
• Hospitals: Health care facilities can refer victims of violence to CVPM centers.

• Women’s Shelters: CVPMs provide temporary shelter spaces for women who are victims of violence. These shelters offer safe environments where women can receive psychological and social support.
• Rehabilitation Programs: Rehabilitation programs are organized for both victims and perpetrators. These programs aim to facilitate the recovery of victims and the reintegration of perpetrators into society.
• Gender Equality Education: Educational programs and awareness campaigns are conducted on gender equality to prevent violence against women.

CVPMs not only ensure the safety of victims of violence but also provide them with psychological, legal, social, and economic support. They play a vital role in reintegrating victims of violence against women into social life. As a key public service in Türkiye’s efforts to combat violence, CVPMs fulfill a critical function in this field.
