
Clint Eastwood (31 May 1930) is an American actor film director producer and composer. He has been active in Hollywood cinema since the second half of the 20th century as both an actor and director. Throughout his career he has appeared in numerous films across the western crime and drama genres and has directed many of them.
Eastwood began his film career in the 1950s and gained international recognition in the 1960s through western films directed by Sergio Leone. He later became a popular cinematic figure for his portrayal of the character “Dirty Harry” in crime films. From the 1970s onward he focused increasingly on directing and won several awards for his work behind the camera.
Throughout his career he has worked in acting directing and producing taking on various roles in film production. His filmography encompasses a wide range of genres including western crime war sports and biography.
Clint Eastwood was born on 31 May 1930 in San Francisco California United States. His family moved between different cities during the Great Depression due to economic hardship. His father was Clinton Eastwood Sr. and his mother was Ruth Margret Eastwood.
During his childhood and youth his family relocated frequently resulting in an education that spanned multiple schools. He attended various schools in California and completed his high school education there.
In his youth he held various jobs including working in the lumber industry and as a lifeguard. He later served in the U.S. military. During his service he was stationed at military installations in California where he first came into contact with the film industry.
Eastwood’s film career began in the 1950s with minor roles at Hollywood studios. He signed a contract with Universal Studios and took on brief roles in several films. At this stage his acting career had not yet achieved significant success.
In 1959 he began portraying the character Rowdy Yates in the television series Rawhide. The series aired for eight seasons and became his first major breakthrough that brought him widespread recognition. This television experience was a crucial step in his transition to a film career.
In the mid-1960s he appeared in western films directed by the Italian filmmaker Sergio Leone. The trilogy consisting of A Fistful of Dollars For a Few Dollars More and The Good the Bad and the Ugly attracted international attention and marked a pivotal turning point in Eastwood’s film career.
The film Dirty Harry was released in 1971. Eastwood portrayed Harry Callahan a detective with the San Francisco Police Department. The film achieved major box office success and the character was reprised in subsequent sequels.

During his tenure as mayor he participated in local governance initiatives. His term ended in 1988. His political activities were limited to this brief period after which he returned his focus to filmmaking.
