Erciyes University (ERÜ)

Erciyes University was established in 1978 as Kayseri University and adopted the name “Research University” in 2021 state. Its origins trace back to the Gevher Nesibe Faculty of Medicine, opened in 1968 under Hacettepe University, and the Kayseri Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences, established in 1977.

In 1982, the Kayseri Higher Islamic Institute (Faculty of Theology) and the Kayseri State Academy of Architecture and Engineering (Faculty of Engineering) were incorporated into the institution, and its name was changed to Erciyes University. University derives its name from Mount Erciyes, located in the southwest of Kayseri at an elevation of 3916 metres. Mount Erciyes is one of Türkiye’s and World’s important winter and ski sports centres.

Core Academic Units

The foundations of Erciyes University were laid with the Gevher Nesibe Faculty of Medicine, established in 1968 under Hacettepe University. Subsequently, faculties of Economic and Administrative Sciences, Theology, Engineering, and Letters and Sciences were opened and began instruction. The following faculties were later added to Erciyes University:

The faculties, schools, and vocational schools located on the Erciyes University Yozgat Campus were transferred to Yozgat Bozok University, established in 2006 and located in Yozgat. The vocational schools on the Nevşehir Campus were transferred to Nevşehir University, established in 2007.

• In 2010, the Faculty of Letters and Sciences was divided into the Faculty of Science and the Faculty of Letters.
• In 2012, the Faculty of Aviation and Space Sciences established the School of Applied Sciences, and in 2015, the School of Civil Aviation was restructured into the Faculty of Aviation and Space Sciences.
• In 2013, the School of Tourism Management and Hotel Management was transformed into the Faculty of Tourism.
• In 2018, with the establishment of Kayseri University, certain faculties and vocational schools of Erciyes University were transferred to the newly established university.

Hospitals and Health Services

Erciyes University, in addition to the Gevher Nesibe Hospital—one of the region’s most important healthcare institutions—comprises the following hospitals:

• Heart and Vascular Diseases Hospital,
• Organ Transplant and Dialysis Hospital,
• Oncology Hospital,
• Children’s Hospital,
• Bone Marrow Transplant and Stem Cell Therapy Centre.

These hospitals make significant contributions to the country’s healthcare system through their advanced infrastructure and expert personnel.

Erciyes University Today

The university currently employs approximately 2,200 academic staff and provides education to nearly 47,000 students. Postgraduate education at Erciyes University has been operational since 1984, with 6,202 postgraduate students and 2,230 doctoral students currently enrolled.
