Algeria responded to the detention of its consular official. On 13 April 2025, France’s ambassador to Algeria was summoned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and handed a formal protest note. On 14 April, Algeria ordered 12 individuals serving in France’s diplomatic mission to leave the country within 48 hours.

France responded to Algeria’s decision on 15 April 2025. Twelve Algerian diplomatic personnel were deported and the French Ambassador to Algeria Paris was recalled.
