LION ZPT (Next-Generation Armored Personnel Carrier)

KAPLAN ZPT is a new-generation tracked armored personnel carrier developed by FNSS Defence Systems. Designed to respond to evolving threats on the modern battlefield, the vehicle stands out for its superior survivability, high mobility, and extensive mission equipment integration options. KAPLAN ZPT is the product of FNSS’s decades of experience in tracked vehicle design and also incorporates technologies developed during the Kaplan MT tank project.

KAPLAN ZPT is equipped with advanced ballistic, mine, and explosively formed projectile (EFP) protection systems to ensure superior protection on the battlefield. The vehicle meets the STANAG 4569 protection standard and can be optionally fitted with an active protection system, laser warning system, and fire detection system. For crew safety, it standardly includes an automatic fire suppression system, climate control system, and KBRN protection systems that create a sealed environment. Additionally, it is equipped with cameras providing 360° situational awareness and day/night vision capability.

The vehicle is designed to accommodate both manned and unmanned turret systems. It can be armed with automatic weapon systems ranging from 12.7 mm to 40 mm, 120 mm mortar systems, and anti-tank guided missile (ATGM) turrets. A coaxial 7.62 mm machine gun can be used as a secondary weapon. The turret system has 360° continuous traverse capability.

KAPLAN ZPT features a diesel engine and automatic transmission that deliver superior mobility. The vehicle can operate at high speed and stability on asphalt roads, stabilized terrain, and rough off-road conditions. An advanced suspension system reduces vibration, enhances traction, and improves crew comfort. The track system offers options of steel tracks or composite rubber tracks, with adjustable and replaceable track pads to provide flexible operational capability.

KAPLAN ZPT has attracted international interest and was developed as part of a specialized project for the Indonesian Armed Forces. Under a cooperation agreement signed between FNSS and Indonesian defense company PT Pindad, production of a tracked armored personnel carrier in the same weight class as the Kaplan MT tank was initiated. As part of the project, one vehicle will be produced by FNSS in Ankara and one by PT Pindad in Indonesia; both vehicles will be delivered to the Indonesian Army Command by the end of 2026.
