Sezai Altekin (1946 – 2025) was a Turkish actor and voice artist known for his work in theater, television, and cinema. He joined the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality City Theaters in 1966 and demonstrated exceptional talent in the performing arts over several decades. In addition to his stage performances, he appeared in numerous television series and films and lent his voice to many animated characters. He passed away on 31 January 2025 at the age of 79.

Life and Career

Sezai Altekin was born in Istanbul in 1946. He completed his education at Pertevniyal High School and began his professional acting career in 1966 when he joined the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality City Theaters. He performed for many years with the Istanbul City Theaters, taking on roles in numerous classical and contemporary plays.

In addition to theater, he appeared in cinema and television projects. Since the 1980s, he also worked as a voice artist. He notably provided the voice for "Şirin Baba" in the animated film Şirinler, "Barni Moloztaş" in the animation Taş Devri, and various characters in Bugs Bunny productions. His voice work played a significant role in bringing foreign television productions to Turkish audiences during that era.

On stage, he performed in plays such as Bana Bir Picasso Gerek, Maske ve Ruh, Lüküs Hayat, Palto, and On İki Öfkeli Adam. In 2008, he won the "Best Male Actor of the Year" award at the 12th Afife Theater Awards for his performance in Bana Bir Picasso Gerek. That same year, he was also named "Male Actor of the Year" at the Tiyatro Tiyatro Awards.

In cinema, he portrayed the character of "Cumhuriyet Başkanı" in the 2007 film Cumhurbaşkanı Öteki Türkiye’de. He also took on various roles in television series, most recently appearing in the 2020 series Alef, which aired on a digital platform.

Theater and Cinema Works

Sezai Altekin performed in more than fifty theater productions. His theater career included both classical and contemporary works, and he was active with the Istanbul City Theaters as well as private theaters.

In cinema and television series, he played supporting and leading roles. He appeared in the series Tatar Ramazan in 2013 and Paşa Gönlüm in 2014. In his later years, he continued to appear in television series and digital platform projects.

Death

Sezai Altekin lived in the district of Bodrum in Türkiye and passed away on 31 January 2025 at the age of 79. His funeral was held in Bodrum Gündoğan.
