History and Location

The mansion is situated in the Eren Neighborhood of the Piraziz district, within a garden surrounded by a large stone wall. Historically, it played a significant role in the development of the region and functioned as a central hub alongside the pier and mosque during the emergence of the town. On October 11, 1990, it was registered and placed under protection by the Trabzon Regional Board for the Protection of Cultural Heritage with decision number 857. Today, it continues to be used by members of the Tiralizade family.

Architectural Features

The Tiralizade Hasan Bey Mansion is planned as a two-story structure above a basement and was constructed using the kagir technique (masonry) with cut stone. One of its most striking aspects is its unique blend of Baroque and Rococo styles integrated into the facade decorations, alongside its reflection of traditional Turkish civil architecture of the period.

Entrance to the mansion is provided by a Baroque-style staircase with two arms designed in a C-shape. The main entrance door is a double-winged cümle kapısı (a type of grand door), centrally located on the facade, framed with stone and flanked by sidelights. The door wings are made of iron and decorated with Baroque motifs. Above the entrance is a balcony supported by two fluted columns. The facade also features Baroque and Rococo ornamental details on the balcony, corner and floor moldings, door and window surrounds, broken pediments above windows, and stone eaves.

On the exterior facade, each floor has four rectangular, guillotine-style windows. The upper floor windows have broken pediments, while all windows have flat lintel stone openings above them. The mansion is topped with a hip roof covered with sheet metal.

Interior Layout and Furnishings

The mansion’s floor plan follows the traditional Ottoman harem-selamlık division. The central hall (sofa) is divided into two sections by a door, separating the private (harem) and public (selamlık) areas. The harem has a separate entrance on the north facade. The interior plan is dominated by the sofa layout, with rooms arranged on either side, each room’s doors featuring double-winged, grille-style transom windows.

Access to the upper floor is via a staircase located among the rooms on the sofa. The ceilings are adorned with wooden craftsmanship and decorative ceiling medallions. The mansion’s furnishings prominently showcase Rococo style, including a rich library and personal belongings of Naim Tirali.

Artistic and Cultural Value

Tiralizade Hasan Bey Mansion is one of the most splendid residential examples in the Giresun region with its Baroque and Rococo decorations. The motifs on the facade, balcony columns, railings, door, and window details demonstrate a departure from local architectural traditions, representing a rich artistic approach. This uniqueness is among the main features distinguishing the mansion from other Ottoman civil architecture examples in the Black Sea region.
