Early Life and Education

Ali Yerlikaya was born on 11 October 1968 in the Selçuklu district of Konya. He completed his primary, secondary and high school education in Konya and graduated in 1989 from the Administration Department of the Faculty of Political Sciences at Istanbul University. Following his education, he began his career in 1990 as a trainee administrator appointed by the Ministry of Interior.

Personal Life

Ali Yerlikaya is married to Hatice Nur Yerlikaya and is the father of four child.

Career in Civil Administration and District Governorship

After completing the civil administration internship initiated by the Ministry of Interior, Ali Yerlikaya served as district governor in various districts. He first served as acting district governor in Felahiye, Kayseri, and was subsequently appointed district governor in the following districts:

• Erzin, Hatay
• Derebucak, Konya
• Hilvan, Şanlıurfa
• Sarıkaya, Yozgat

In 2003–2004 he served as Advisor to the Ministry of Interior and was then appointed to the General Directorate of Personnel at the Ministry of Health. In 2007 he began his governorship career with an appointment to step and was assigned as Governor of Şırnak.

Governorships

Ali Yerlikaya served as governor in several provinces in succession:

• Şırnak Governorship (2007–2010): Appointed on 13 December 2007 and served until 17 May 2010. During his tenure he carried out various initiatives in the fields of security and infrastructure.
• Ağrı Governorship (2010–2012): Appointed on 23 May 2010 and served until 9 August 2012.
• Tekirdağ Governorship (2012–2015): Appointed on 17 August 2012, he served as governor of Tekirdağ until 3 March 2015.
• Gaziantep Governorship (2015–2018): Appointed on 5 March 2015, Yerlikaya held this position until 3 November 2018. During his term he participated in projects aimed at strengthening the city’s industrial and commercial infrastructure.
• Istanbul Governorship (2018–2023): Appointed on 26 October 2018, he served as Governor of Istanbul until 3 June 2023. In Istanbul he worked on issues including natural disaster management, urban transformation and social projects.

Ministry of Interior Period

On 3 June 2023, Ali Yerlikaya was appointed Minister of Interior by Presidential Decree. During his tenure at the Ministry of Interior, particular emphasis was placed on projects related to security and public order.

Key Policies and Practices During His Tenure

• Urban Security: Security operations and preventive measures were implemented to reduce crime rates.
• Disaster Management: Crisis management strategies were developed for natural disasters such as earthquakes and floods.
• Migration Policies: Work was carried out on migration management and regulation in Türkiye.

International Cooperation and Meetings

During his tenure as Minister of Interior, Ali Yerlikaya engaged in cooperation with various countries on security and migration matters. He maintained contact with international organizations on Migrant policies and border security issues.
